Church Hill Woman Arrested for Attempted Kidnapping at Queen Anne’s County 4H Fair

Queen Anne's County, MD - A Church Hill woman was arrested on August 11, 2025, following an attempted kidnapping at the Queen Anne's County 4H Fair in Centreville, MD. The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m., prompting an immediate response from deputies of the Queen Anne's County Office of the Sheriff and the activation of the fair's emergency response plan.
According to reports, a family member and bystanders intervened during the incident, effectively preventing the suspect from leaving the scene. Deputies arrived shortly after and secured the area.
The collaborative efforts of the child's family, bystanders, and fair employees were instrumental in ensuring the child's safety and stopping the suspect's movement.
Witnesses identified one suspect along with three individuals who were present during the event.
All four were initially detained as persons of interest while interviews were conducted. Investigators reviewed tips and consulted with the Queen Anne's County State's Attorney's Office to confirm the details of the case.
The investigation determined that Alexandra Kay Dawson, 28, of Church Hill, MD, acted alone in the attempted offense. The other three individuals were found to have no involvement and were released without charges.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and review any unverified claims or reports of unwanted contact involving children at the fair. At this time, no additional incidents have been confirmed. The Sheriff's Office has encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward.

Alexandra Kay Dawson has been charged with the following:
- Kidnapping (child under 16)
- 2nd Degree Assault
- Disorderly Conduct
Dawson has been held without bond on her initial appearance with the District Court Commissioner. She has a bail review scheduled for August 12, 2025 at 1:15 PM in front of Judge Frank Kratovil Jr.
