Salisbury, MD - The City of Salisbury has announced that the tennis courts at City Park will be temporarily closed starting Friday, June 20, 2025, for resurfacing. This initiative is part of the city's ongoing efforts to improve recreational facilities.

The closure is expected to last until June 30, 2025, although the timeline may be adjusted due to weather conditions. Updates regarding the project schedule will be shared through the city's official communication channels.

Located in Salisbury's City Park off North Park Drive, between Beaver Dam Drive and Main Street, the tennis courts have long been a significant part of the city's recreational offerings. Mayor Randy Taylor highlighted their historical importance, stating:

"The City Park Tennis Courts hold a tremendous amount of history. The former manager of Jimmy Connors, William F. 'Bill' Riordan, recruited California players to teach lessons at these courts during the summer in the mid-1960s. A photo hangs in my office memorializing those moments. Bill Riordan was a childhood mentor of mine, and I am pleased that, as the current Mayor, the City of Salisbury continues to invest in this facility that has benefited so many! I am looking forward to the completion of this overdue project!"

The resurfacing work aims to improve the safety and quality of the courts, ensuring they meet the needs of players of all ages and skill levels. Mike Dryden, Director of Field Operations, emphasized the community-focused benefits of the project:

"We're excited to announce the resurfacing of our city tennis courts-a vital investment in our community's health and recreation. These upgrades will provide a safer, more enjoyable experience for players of all ages and skill levels, encourage more active lifestyles, and support local programs and tournaments. This project represents a step forward in enhancing our public spaces and fostering a stronger, healthier community."

This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the City of Salisbury to maintain and improve public spaces, ensuring accessibility and enjoyment for all residents. For further details about the tennis court resurfacing project, please contact the City of Salisbury or visit their official website.
