Salisbury, MD - The City of Salisbury has officially announced the implementation of its Adopt-A-Road program. This initiative allows volunteers to maintain specific stretches of roadway within the city limits.

The primary goal of the program is to reduce the amount of trash found on roadsides while fostering civic pride and environmental responsibility.

Participants in the program work to collect litter and recyclables. These efforts assist in protecting local waterways by reducing the debris that washes into the Chesapeake Bay and other regional water systems.

Beyond waste reduction, the program aims to preserve local habitats, improve safety, and reduce maintenance costs for the City.

"Keeping Salisbury clean and beautiful is something those who live and work here can take pride in, and the Adopt-A-Road program is a great way for residents and organizations to make a real difference," said Mayor Randy Taylor. "Together, we can protect our environment, enhance our community and ensure a better tomorrow for the place we call home."

To acknowledge the efforts of adopters, the City installs signs along the designated road sections that display the name of the volunteer group. These signs serve to highlight the commitment of the volunteers to the community and the environment.

Volunteer safety is cited as the top priority for the initiative. The City supplies participants with safety vests, disposable work gloves, and trash bags for collection.

Groups are encouraged to use bright warning signs during clean-up activities, and strict adherence to traffic laws and safety guidelines is required. Further details regarding registration and guidelines are available through the City's "Adopt a Road Guidelines" and "Get Involved!" web pages.
