City of Salisbury Offices Closed Under State of Emergency
Salisbury, MD - A State of Emergency remains in effect for the City of Salisbury. This declaration will stay in place until lifted by City officials or pending further decisions by the State of Maryland. Consequently, all City offices and buildings will be closed on Monday, January 26.
Weather conditions are expected to remain difficult throughout the day. Officials cite concerns regarding a potential refreeze on the roads tonight, which may lead to dangerous black ice. The Field Operations team is currently working to clear City roads. Residents are encouraged to stay home if possible to keep snow emergency routes accessible for plowing.
Waste collection schedules have been adjusted due to the weather. Trash and recycling pickups originally scheduled for Monday, January 26, will now occur on Saturday, January 31. Pickups slated for Tuesday, January 27, will move to Wednesday, January 28.
Property owners adjacent to City streets are required to clear sidewalks within 24 hours after snowfall ends. A path at least four feet wide is necessary for pedestrian safety.
Additionally, residents near fire hydrants should clear a three-foot-wide space around the hydrant for emergency access. Snow must not be pushed into the streets as it complicates clearing efforts.
Essential staff, including the Salisbury Police Department and Salisbury Fire Department, will remain on duty. Anyone with City water services requiring a water shut-off should contact the Salisbury Police Department non-emergency line at 410-548-3165.
