Salisbury, Maryland - The City of Salisbury has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) inviting local artists, artist teams, students, and emerging creators to design and create a permanent, interactive sculpture or installation at Salisbury City Park. This initiative aims to celebrate themes of community, creativity, and accessibility through public art.

The installation will be situated at the northwest corner of Salisbury City Park, adjacent to a high-traffic playground and riverfront walking area. Artists are encouraged to submit concepts for site-specific, hands-on works made from durable, low-maintenance materials capable of withstanding physical engagement and year-round weather conditions.

The project is part of the City's broader effort to enhance the experiential connection between Downtown Salisbury, the Zoo, and the surrounding park areas.

Project Scope and Budget

The project is funded through a Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) Planning Grant, with an anticipated $30,000 MSAC Implementation Grant awarded for the final design. This budget encompasses all aspects of the project, including design, materials, fabrication, installation, and artist fees.

To progress the selection process, the City will initially select five semi-finalists, each of whom will receive a $1,000 stipend to further develop detailed proposals. These proposals will include physical models, material samples, detailed renderings, and installation plans.

Finalist submissions will undergo a thorough review process, incorporating community input to identify the design best suited for the space.
