Salisbury, MD - The City of Salisbury has made significant progress in its mission to improve the health of local waterways. In collaboration with regional organizations, the city has installed a debris-catching net on the Wicomico River.

This initiative is part of a larger effort involving the Salisbury Litter Committee, Shore Progress, and the Wicomico County Litter Initiative, known as "Wicomico Clean."

The debris net, strategically placed at an outfall location along the river, is designed to prevent trash from entering the water through storm drains. It is located near the footbridge off the Riverwalk, aiming to protect the river from harmful pollutants.

Mayor Randy Taylor emphasized that this installation is just the beginning, stating, "This will not be the last step in taking control of trash in the storm drains that flow into the river." The city is committed to ongoing efforts and innovative solutions to safeguard the environment.

This initiative reflects months of collaboration at various levels and encourages a sense of environmental stewardship within the community. Salisbury has set a commendable example by uniting city departments, community groups, and county-wide programs around a common goal of sustainability.

Residents are invited to participate actively in future cleanup events, educational workshops, and sustainability campaigns. These collective efforts aim to maintain the Wicomico River as a vital and vibrant part of the Salisbury community.
