Community Complaints About Drug Activity Lead to Investigation and Arrest

Cambridge, MD - Over the course of July and August 2025, detectives from the Cambridge Police Department's Proactive Community Engagement (P.A.C.E.) Unit conducted an investigation into illegal controlled dangerous substances (CDS) activities in the 700 block of Pine Street in Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland. The investigation originated from complaints by local residents who reported CDS-related activities in the area.


During their investigation, detectives observed a subject, whom they later identified as Roderick Darnell Bell, 34, of East New Market, MD, engaging in multiple CDS transactions at the location.


On August 1, 2025, Cambridge Police Department detectives, along with patrol officers, responded to the area and located Bell. He was arrested on-site.


Upon conducting a search incident to his arrest, Bell was found to be in possession of crack cocaine. Following his arrest, Bell was transported to the Cambridge Police Department for processing.


He was subsequently transferred to the custody of the Dorchester County Department of Corrections and held without bond.


Bell had a bond review on August 4, 2025 and was ordered to be held without bond by the Honorable Melvin J. Jews.


The charges filed against Bell include:


  • Distribution of Controlled Dangerous Substances (2 counts)  
  • CDS Possession with Intent to Distribute Narcotics  
  • CDS Possession Not Cannabis  


The Cambridge Police Department continues to prioritize proactive efforts to address CDS violations in the community. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities to assist law enforcement in ensuring public safety.
