Crisfield Man Arrested for Sex Abuse of a Minor

Crisfield, MD - On August 21, 2025, a Somerset County man was arrested in connection with sexual abuse of a minor, according to the Maryland State Police.

Gene Sheldon Hughes Jr., 60, of Crisfield, Maryland, is facing charges of sex abuse of a minor and second-degree assault, among other related offenses.

Following his arrest, Hughes was taken to the Somerset County District Court Commissioner's Office, where a judge ordered him to be held without bond.

The arrest occurred after investigators from the Maryland State Police Princess Anne Criminal Enforcement Division obtained a warrant for Hughes. He was located at his residence and taken into custody without incident.
