Cyclist Hospitalized Following Collision in Rehoboth Beach; Driver Charged with Multiple Offenses

Rehoboth Beach, DE - Rehoboth Beach Police officers responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist on the 300 block of Rehoboth Avenue during the early hours of Wednesday, July 9, 2025. The incident, reported at approximately 1:08 a.m., resulted in significant injuries to the cyclist.


Initial investigations determined that Megan Smith, a 20-year-old resident of Lewes, Delaware, was operating a Jeep Wrangler traveling westbound on Rehoboth Avenue when she struck the cyclist. The bicyclist, identified as a 21-year-old J1 visa student, sustained potentially life-threatening injuries and was transported by EMS to a nearby hospital for treatment.


Smith has been charged with multiple offenses related to the incident, including possession of a fake identification card.


The charges filed against her are as follows:

  • Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol (Misdemeanor)  
  • Failure to Have Insurance Identification (Misdemeanor)
