DELAWARE MAN ARRESTED FOR HIS 5TH DUI IN SEAFORD

Seaford, DE - The Delaware State Police have arrested 50-year-old Sean Haynes of Greenwood, Delaware for felony DUI following a traffic stop in Seaford, Delaware on Saturday evening.

On December 2, 2023, at approximately 8:10 p.m., a trooper was on patrol traveling northbound on Sussex Highway in the area of Old Furnace Road in Seaford, Delaware. The trooper got behind a silver Hyundai Sonata, and observed the vehicle drifting and swerving within the right travel lane. 

The Sonata applied the brakes abruptly despite there being nothing in front of it. The trooper initiated a traffic stop based on the observations and the driving behavior in addition to the partially covered license plate. 

The driver continued to move slowly on the shoulder of Sussex Highway in the area of Cannon Road before coming to a complete stop. 

The trooper contacted the driver, who was identified as Sean Haynes, and saw signs of impairment. Haynes was taken into custody after completing the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. 

A computer check on Haynes showed he had four prior DUI-related convictions.

Haynes was transported to Troop 5, where he was charged with the following crimes:


  • 5th Offense DUI (Felony)

  • Traffic Offenses


Haynes was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $4150 secured bond.
