DELAWARE STATE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH IN GREENWOOD

Greenwood, DE - The Delaware State Police are looking into a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on May 16, 2025, at approximately 4:59 PM in Greenwood, Delaware.
Investigation details indicate that a black Toyota Prius was heading south on Staytonville Road as it neared the intersection with Shawnee Road. Simultaneously, a blue Nissan Sentra was traveling west on Shawnee Road, approaching Staytonville Road.
For reasons that are still being investigated, the Toyota did not stop at the stop sign and entered the path of the Nissan, leading to a collision in which the Nissan struck the driver's side of the Toyota.
The driver of the Toyota, a 77-year-old man from East Fallowfield, Pennsylvania, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later passed away. His identity is being withheld pending notification of family members.
The 37-year-old male driver of the Nissan, along with a 26-year-old female passenger and a 5-year-old male passenger- all from Bear, Delaware-were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The roadway remained closed for about three hours while authorities investigated and cleared the scene.
