Delaware State Police Arrest Lewes Man for Attempted Murder Following Domestic Incident

LEWES, DE - The Delaware State Police have arrested Shane Windell, 31, of Lewes, Delaware and have charged him with attempted murder and other related offenses. The arrest follows an incident at a residence in Lewes, Delaware that resulted in critical injuries to a female victim.
Troopers responded to the 33000 block of Tidal Way on December 13, 2025, at approximately 3:10 a.m. A welfare check was conducted at the residence.

Troopers discovered a woman with life-threatening physical injuries. Windell was also located at the scene with serious lacerations.

Medical aid was rendered to both individuals before they were transported to a local hospital.

The investigation has been assumed by the Delaware State Police Troop 4 Criminal Investigations Unit. It was determined that an argument occurred between Windell and the victim, who are known to each other.

The victim was reportedly assaulted repeatedly and prevented from leaving the residence. Windell's injuries were determined to be self-inflicted during the incident.

Windell was initially remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections for a probation violation while receiving medical treatment. He was released from the hospital on December 15, 2025.

He was subsequently charged with Attempt to Commit Murder 1st Degree, Kidnapping First Degree, Strangulation or Suffocation, and Terroristic Threatening. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $1,041,000 cash bond.
