Delmar, DE - Delaware State Police have arrested 61-year-old Oscar Johnson of Salisbury, Maryland, following a traffic stop that led to felony DUI and drug charges. The arrest occurred late Wednesday night after a trooper observed erratic driving behavior on Delmar Road in Delmar, Delaware.

On October 22, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., a trooper noticed a BMW with Maryland registration traveling at excessive speed. The vehicle failed to maintain its lane and repeatedly crossed onto the shoulder and into the grass. A traffic stop was initiated.

The driver was identified as Oscar Johnson. Upon contact, the trooper observed signs of impairment and detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverages. Johnson was asked to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, during which he displayed additional indicators of impairment.

During the stop, troopers observed Johnson attempting to kick a clear plastic bag under his vehicle. The bag was retrieved and found to contain a white, rock-like substance consistent with crack cocaine. Troopers also recovered a pill bottle containing a white powdery substance.

Johnson was taken into custody and transported to Troop 5. The substances were tested and confirmed to be cocaine with a combined weight of approximately 105 grams.

A computer inquiry revealed that Johnson had two prior DUI-related convictions. A blood search warrant was obtained. Johnson was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance Tier 3 Quantity (Felony), 3rd Offense DUI (Felony), Tampering with Physical Evidence (Felony), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving without a Valid License, and multiple traffic offenses.

Johnson was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $30,106 secured bond.
