Selbyville, DE - Delaware State Police have arrested a 27-year-old Selbyville man on multiple felony drug charges following a high-speed pursuit and subsequent search warrant execution.

Jaquan Johnson was taken into custody after a vehicle pursuit that ended in a collision and foot chase on October 1, 2025. The arrest followed an ongoing drug investigation conducted by the Sussex County Governor's Task Force and Sussex County Drug Unit.

The investigation began at approximately 7:00 p.m. when detectives were conducting surveillance at a property on the 34000 block of Bennett Road in Selbyville. Officers observed Johnson arrive at the residence in a white Ford Transit van before departing southbound on Bennett Road near Roxana Road.

A computer check revealed that Johnson was wanted for arrest in Maryland. The van had also been involved in a recent pursuit with police in Worcester County.

When detectives attempted to stop the vehicle on Bethany Road, Johnson initially complied but refused to exit the van when instructed. He then fled the scene at high speed.

The pursuit covered several area streets and roads as the van traveled at dangerous speeds. Detectives deployed stop sticks during the chase, but the vehicle continued to flee.

The pursuit ended when the van collided with a Chevrolet Equinox at the intersection of Lighthouse Road and South Main Street in Selbyville.

Following the collision, Johnson continued to flee in the van until it came to a stop on Main Street in Frankford.

He then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Detectives observed Johnson throw a potato chip bag during his escape before he was apprehended with the assistance of a taser deployment.

The driver of the Chevrolet Equinox was not injured in the collision.

Upon recovery, the discarded potato chip bag contained approximately 60.07 grams of cocaine and approximately 10.89 grams of crack cocaine. The bag also held 85 bars and 33 partial bars of Xanax. A search of the van revealed additional drug paraphernalia.

Following the arrest, detectives obtained and executed a search warrant at the Bennett Road property. The search yielded numerous items consistent with drug distribution operations.

Recovered items included unused wax paper bags, an inkpad and stamp, small rubber bands, cutting agents, digital scales, a blender jar with cocaine residue, Pyrex dishes, clear plastic baggies, and 20 rounds of .223 caliber ammunition.

Johnson was transported to Troop 4 where he was processed and charged with multiple offenses. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $127,617 secured bond.

The charges against Johnson include multiple counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Operation of a Clandestine Laboratory, Maintaining a Drug Property, Manufacturing Items for Counterfeiting Drugs, Disregarding a Police Officer's Signal, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and numerous traffic violations.

The investigation demonstrates the ongoing efforts by Delaware State Police to combat drug distribution operations in Sussex County.
