Lewes, DE - On Friday afternoon, a five-vehicle crash in Lewes resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left three others injured. Delaware State Police are currently investigating the incident.

The collision occurred on November 7, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m. on southbound Coastal Highway, just south of Hudson Road. According to the preliminary investigation, a Ford Edge, a Nissan Altima, a BMW X2, and a BMW 135 were either slowing or stopped in traffic in the right lane.

A Peterbilt dump truck, also traveling southbound in the right lane, reportedly failed to slow down and struck the rear of the Ford, leading to a chain-reaction crash involving the other three vehicles.

The driver of the Ford, a 62-year-old woman from Bel Air, Maryland, was transported to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries. A 64-year-old male passenger in the same vehicle, also from Bel Air, was pronounced dead at the scene. The names of the deceased are being withheld pending family notification.

Three other drivers involved in the collision were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries: the 57-year-old male driver of the Nissan from Millsboro, Delaware; the 75-year-old female driver of the BMW X2 from Milton, Delaware; and the 27-year-old male driver of the Peterbilt from Wilmington, Delaware. The driver of the BMW 135, a 74-year-old man from Lewes, Delaware, was not injured.

Coastal Highway was closed for approximately five hours as authorities investigated the scene and cleared the roadway.
