Delaware State Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Milford

Milford, DE - The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Sunday night, January 11, 2026, in Milford, Delaware. It took place after a suspect fled from an attempted traffic stop.

At approximately 9:00 p.m., a trooper observed a Nissan Altima committing a traffic violation on Johnson Road near North Old State Road in Lincoln, Delaware. A computer check indicated a registration violation for the vehicle.

The trooper initiated a traffic stop on North Old State Road. The vehicle came to a stop but then accelerated away before the trooper could exit their patrol car.

A pursuit ensued as the Nissan Altima was driven recklessly on several area roads. The pursuit was eventually canceled to ensure the safety of other motorists.

Shortly after the pursuit was terminated, the vehicle crashed on Lakeview Avenue within the Milford city limits.

Preliminary investigation details suggest that the Altima was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway on the south side of Lakeview Avenue. The vehicle entered the sidewalk and crossed West Clarke Avenue. It struck a small tree and shrubs in a private yard before colliding with a larger tree.

The driver, a 37-year-old man from Georgetown, Delaware, was transported to a local hospital where he passed away. His name is currently withheld pending notification of his family. Lakeview Avenue was closed for approximately two hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
