Delaware State Police Promotes Major Jeremiah Lloyd to Lieutenant Colonel

STATE OF DE - The Delaware State Police has announced the promotion of Major Jeremiah Lloyd to Lieutenant Colonel. Colonel William D. Crotty, Superintendent of the Delaware State Police, made the announcement regarding Lloyd's advancement to this senior leadership position.


New Role and Responsibilities


Lieutenant Colonel Lloyd will oversee all Delaware State Police operations in his new capacity. His direct supervision will extend to several key departments including the Office of Professional Responsibility, Office of Strategic Development, Information Technology, and Criminal Justice Information Services Security, Audit, and Training.


Educational Background and Experience


Lloyd brings 20 years of experience with the Delaware State Police to his new role. He holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Homeland Security from Saint Joseph's University, earned in 2018.


His undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Wilmington University, completed in 2004.


His professional development includes completion of the FBI National Academy Session 284. Throughout his career, Lloyd has participated in advanced training programs to enhance his leadership capabilities.


Recent Leadership Positions


As the Delaware State Police Administrative Officer, Lloyd managed multiple critical areas. His responsibilities included overseeing the division's budget, training academy, human resources, transportation section, and victim services.


He initiated a Crisis Intervention Team pilot program designed to train specialized troopers for mental health crisis response situations.


Prior to his executive staff role, Lloyd served as Troop Commander at Troop 6 in Prices Corner. During this assignment, he strengthened community partnerships and implemented advanced crime analysis technology.


Lloyd also managed the planning and relocation process for the new facility that recently opened in the Troop 6 area.


Previous Career Highlights


Lloyd previously held the position of Deputy Commander of the Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit in New Castle County. In this role, he supervised detectives and professional staff while implementing technology upgrades and improving investigative processes.


As a Lieutenant, Lloyd contributed to establishing the Real Time Crime Center when it launched in 2017. He led crime analysts and criminal intelligence officers in developing statewide crime and traffic reduction strategies.


His work included implementing an upgraded information sharing system and overseeing grants focused on gun violence reduction.


Earlier in his career, Lloyd served as both Sergeant and Trooper in Criminal and Special Investigations and patrol functions, primarily in Kent County communities.


Community Involvement


Beyond his professional duties, Lloyd maintains active community involvement. He has served on the Camp Barnes Board of Directors and the Appoquinimink School Safety Committee.


His volunteer work includes participation with Special Olympics Delaware. Lloyd has been a member of the Odessa Volunteer Fire Company since 1995. He has also coached youth football and Little League teams in his community.
