Lewes, DE - A Delaware State Trooper has been indicted on multiple charges, including felony Official Misconduct, following an incident that occurred in Lewes earlier this year. On October 27, 2025, Master Corporal William Walker, 53, was indicted on two counts of felony Official Misconduct. He also faces misdemeanor charges of Falsely Reporting an Incident, Assault 3rd Degree, and Offensive Touching.

The indictment stems from an investigation into a physical altercation at a restaurant in January. The Delaware State Police (DSP) has suspended Walker pending the outcome of his prosecution.

According to the State, on January 30, Walker was at Nicola Pizza when he saw a physical altercation between two other patrons. After one of the individuals, the victim, left the restaurant, Walker followed him outside.

Though not in uniform, Walker identified himself as a police officer and forcibly pulled the victim back toward the restaurant. It is alleged that Walker forced the victim onto a bench, then pulled him up by his shirt, leading to another altercation.

During this time, Walker allegedly struck the victim multiple times, including kicking him while he was on the ground. When another patron tried to intervene, Walker allegedly pushed him, causing him to fall. When officers arrived at the scene, Walker reportedly claimed he had been assaulted by the intervening patron.

The initial victim was taken to Beebe hospital, where he was treated for bruising and minor lacerations before being released. "We expect all Delaware law enforcement to uphold their oath to serve and protect," said Attorney General Kathy Jennings. "We will prosecute this case, and every case, with the utmost care. I am deeply grateful to our team, and to the Delaware State Police for their swift response, and thorough cooperation."

Colonel William D. Crotty, Superintendent of the Delaware State Police, also commented on the matter. "The Delaware State Police holds its troopers to the highest standards of conduct, both on and off duty," said Colonel Crotty. "Allegations of misconduct are taken seriously. When video evidence raised concerns about the accuracy of Master Corporal William Walker's statements and the level of force utilized, he was suspended. The matter was referred to the Delaware Department of Justice Division of Public Trust for independent review. These actions demonstrate our commitment to accountability, transparency, and maintaining public trust. We value our partnership with the Delaware Department of Justice. The trooper remains suspended while the judicial process moves forward."

The charges against Walker carry a potential sentencing range of zero to 8 years and 30 days of incarceration.
