Delaware Woman Arrested for Possession of Active Explosive Device and Drugs

Georgetown, DE - The Delaware State Police have arrested a Georgetown woman following a probation search on Wednesday. Amanda Seward, 34, faces charges for possession of a destructive weapon and various drug offenses. The incident occurred on the afternoon of January 7, 2025.

At approximately 2:20 p.m., Probation & Parole officers conducted an administrative search of a residence on the 17000 block of McColley's Chapel Road in Georgetown, Delaware.

The Sussex County Governor's Task Force was requested to assist after officers located drugs, drug paraphernalia, and an object resembling an explosive device.

Seward and two male subjects were detained at the scene without incident. The Delaware State Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit responded to the residence due to the nature of the discovery. The unit determined the device was active and subsequently rendered it safe.

A further search of the residence yielded several illegal items. Authorities recovered the explosive device, a digital scale, and small quantities of methamphetamine and heroin. Prescription films, including buprenorphine and naloxone, were also seized during the investigation.

Seward was transported to Troop 4 and charged with Possession of a Destructive Weapon, which is a felony. Additional charges include three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance and two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3.

Although released on a $1,500 unsecured bond for these charges, she was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution for probation violations.

The two men detained at the scene were charged with misdemeanor offenses and released.
