Delmar Man Arrested Following Home Invasion and Assault

Delmar, DE - The Delaware State Police have arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with a burglary and assault in Delmar, Delaware. Mario E. Padilla Caballero, a resident of Delmar, was taken into custody early yesterday morning.

Troopers were called to a home on the 34000 block of Bi-State Boulevard around 2:10 a.m. on February 9, 2026. Authorities received reports of an assault involving a weapon at the residence.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Padilla Caballero forced his way into the house. He was still inside the residence when the homeowner, a 40-year-old man, returned. A confrontation ensued between the two men. During the altercation, the homeowner sustained a cut from a knife.

When police arrived on the scene, Padilla Caballero attempted to flee the residence. He was apprehended by troopers without incident. The victim, who was acquainted with the suspect, was treated for minor injuries.

Padilla Caballero was transported to Troop 5 following his arrest. He faces multiple charges, including Home-Invasion Burglary 1st Degree causing physical injury, Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, Assault 2nd Degree, and Aggravated Menacing.

Additional charges include Terroristic Threatening, Criminal Mischief, and Resisting Arrest. He was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $56,201 cash bond.
