DETECTIVES LOCATE SUSPECT FROM MARDELA MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL BOMB THREAT

Mardela Springs, MD - On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, Mardela Middle and High School faced a security incident when a series of bomb threats were directed at the school. The administration promptly took action, and investigative efforts were initiated to identify and apprehend the suspect.

After a thorough investigation, which included identifying and tracking down VOIP/IP numbers and locations, the suspect was identified. Detectives were able to locate the subject who resides in Somerset County, Maryland.

Detectives from the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division and School Resource Division traveled to Crisfield, Somerset County, Maryland and met with the subject. The subject confessed to his involvement in the bomb threats. 

The subject clarified that their intentions were not to cause harm but to get their friend, who attends Mardela Middle and High School, out of school for the day.

The suspect's cell phone was seized for further investigation pending a Search and Seizure warrant.

While the incident caused concern and disruption, law enforcement concluded that the immediate risk to public safety was low, and appropriate measures were taken to ensure the safety of the school students and faculty.

Charges are pending as detectives complete the necessary investigation and legal procedures.
