DHS Announces Results of Operation Metro Surge in Minnesota
National News - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released details regarding the outcomes of Operation Metro Surge. This initiative focused on neighborhoods within Minnesota. Agents arrested several foreign nationals with criminal histories.
The individuals taken into custody include those convicted of murder and violent assault. One individual reportedly holds a record of 24 prior convictions.
Officials contrasted the operation's progress with the current stance of local leadership. The DHS cited a lack of cooperation from Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey regarding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The department stated that approximately 470 undocumented individuals with criminal records have been released into communities during the current administration. DHS is requesting that Governor Walz and Mayor Frey honor ICE detainers for more than 1,360 individuals currently in custody.
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin commented on the operation. "As our law enforcement are facing rampant violence against them, they arrested murderers, drug traffickers, and an illegal with 24 criminal convictions in Minneapolis yesterday," said McLaughlin. "These are the criminals Governor Walz and Mayor Frey are protecting. No American wants these criminals for neighbors."
The operation resulted in specific arrests involving nationals from various countries. Hien Quoc Thai of Vietnam was arrested with a murder conviction. Brian Anjain of the Marshall Islands was apprehended with 24 convictions, including assault causing bodily injury and domestic abuse. Pedro Lopez-Brito of Guatemala was taken into custody for assault with intent to inflict serious injury.
Additional arrests included Yadrian Leyva Leyva of Cuba, who was convicted of larceny and forgery. Eddy Xol-Lares of Venezuela was convicted of conspiracy to possess cocaine. Hugo Ricardo Vicente Che Ba of Guatemala faced a conviction for domestic violence. Luis Angel Marquez Leal of Mexico was convicted of disorderly conduct.
Further apprehensions involved Martinus Dawid Kunneke of South Africa for violating a restraining order. Marlon Leiva-Orellana of Honduras was convicted of property damage and driving under the influence. Jose Daniel Valdez Garcia of Mexico was convicted of fraud.
Finally, Ionut Pedro Dumitru of Romania was charged with grand theft.
