DNREC Reminds Public to Avoid Snow Related Activities on Sand Dunes
State of DE - With winter weather and snow in the forecast, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) reminds the public that recreational activities on sand dunes are prohibited.
This restriction includes sledding and snowboarding on the dunes found in Cape Henlopen State Park and Delaware Seashore State Park.
The state's dune system serves critical functions. Dunes provide fragile habitat for wildlife and offer essential protection for beaches and the communities they border. Preserving these areas is necessary to maintain the coastal ecosystem.
The DNREC Division of Parks and Recreation advises that pedestrian traffic and recreation are not allowed on the dunes. Access is permitted only at specifically marked crossings.
Visitors seeking approved sledding locations in Delaware are encouraged to visit DNREC's online magazine, Outdoor Delaware.
