Dover Man Arrested Following String of Burglaries in Milford
Sussex County, DE - Milford Police have arrested a Dover man in connection with a series of burglaries that took place in early January. John A. Carey Jr., 26, has been charged after detectives linked him to break-ins at three local businesses.
The incidents occurred during the early morning hours of January 4, 2026. Through their investigation, detectives determined that Carey was responsible for burglaries at My Sister's Fault on the unit block of SW Front Street, TJ's Auto Repair on the 200 block of Marshall Street, and Country Corner Market on the 500 block of SE 2nd Street.
Detectives subsequently obtained an arrest warrant for Carey. At the time the warrant was issued, he was already incarcerated at the Sussex Correctional Institution for a separate incident involving an attempted burglary at a local bank in Milford.
On January 15, 2026, Carey was arraigned through the Justice of the Peace Court. He faces multiple charges, including one count of Wearing a Disguise during the Commission of a Felony, three counts of Burglary 3rd Degree, and two counts of Possession of Burglar Tools.
Additional charges include six counts of Theft under $1,500 and three counts of Criminal Mischief.
Following the arraignment, Carey was issued a $30,000 cash bond. He remains in the custody of the Department of Correction. The court has issued a no-contact order regarding the victims, and Carey is scheduled to appear in the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas for a preliminary hearing at a later date.
