Worcester County, MD - The Worcester County Board of Education has appointed Dr. Annette Wallace as the next Superintendent of Schools for Worcester County, pending contract negotiations. Dr. Wallace, a lifelong resident and proud graduate of Worcester County Public Schools, will be the first female to hold this position in the school system's history.
She has served in the school system for nearly 22 years and is currently the Chief Safety and Academic Officer for grades 9-12.
Throughout her career, Dr. Wallace has made significant contributions, including leading Pocomoke High School to improved academic performance and increased student access to advanced coursework, as well as facilitating a successful transition to Apple technology. Her work on the Safe and Supportive Schools model for student discipline has been recognized by leaders across the state.
In addition to her role within the school system, Dr. Wallace is actively involved in the Worcester County community, serving on several boards, including the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore and the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore.
The Board of Education has expressed confidence in Dr. Wallace's leadership abilities. Board President Todd Ferrante noted that selecting the next leader is a critical responsibility, and they believe Dr. Wallace is well-suited to lead the school system into a bright future.
The search for a new superintendent was conducted by the Maryland Association of Boards of Education, which gathered community input and facilitated a thorough review process, including panel interviews with nearly 90 participants. Dr. Edward Shirley of MABE affirmed the diligence and thoughtfulness of the search process.
Dr. Wallace will officially assume her role on July 1, 2025, succeeding Superintendent Lou Taylor, who announced his retirement after 41 years of service.
