Drexel Hill Man Charged in Bethany Beach Hit-and-Run

BETHANY BEACH, DE - A man from Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, is facing multiple charges after a hit-and-run collision that injured a 68-year-old male pedestrian on Friday evening.

The incident occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m. on November 28, 2025, at the intersection of SR 26 and Treetop Lane. Officers from the Bethany Beach Police Department were dispatched to the scene and found the injured man.

Witnesses reported that a Ford Bronco with Pennsylvania registration had struck the pedestrian and continued westbound. One witness followed the vehicle for approximately half a mile.

Shortly after, Michael T. Hoover arrived back at the scene in the described vehicle. He approached the investigating officers, admitted to striking the pedestrian, and cooperated with the investigation.

While speaking with Hoover, officers noted slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol. He subsequently failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was taken into custody. A search of his vehicle revealed multiple empty alcohol containers.

The pedestrian suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by EMS to a local hospital for treatment.

Hoover was charged with the following:

  • Vehicular Assault 1st Degree (Felony)
  • Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Injury (Misdemeanor)
  • Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol (Misdemeanor)
  • Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession (Misdemeanor)
  • Failure to Report a Collision Involving Alcohol or Drugs (Traffic Violation)
  • Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian in a Crosswalk (Traffic Violation)

He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on an unsecured bond.
