Grasonville, MD - A 28-year-old Grasonville resident, Zachary Wolfe, has been arrested for an incident where he fled a traffic stop, nearly struck a deputy, and exhibited reckless driving behavior.
At approximately 10:26 PM on May 3rd, DFC Lawler, conducting routine traffic enforcement on westbound Route 50, identified a vehicle with a suspended registration during a registration check. Upon initiating a traffic stop, the vehicle exited Route 50 via Exit 42 and came to a stop along Kent Narrows Way South.
When DFC Lawler approached the stopped vehicle, the driver suddenly accelerated, fleeing the scene. The vehicle then turned around and drove directly toward DFC Lawler's patrol car, forcing the deputy to move aside to avoid being struck. The vehicle passed within approximately two feet of his position.
During this encounter, DFC Lawler observed the driver's features and later confirmed the driver's identity as Zachary Wolfe through comparison with the MVA photo of the vehicle's registered owner.
Given the confirmed identification and the dangerous behavior displayed by the driver, DFC Lawler chose not to engage in a pursuit, prioritizing public safety.
Instead, an application for charges was submitted. On July 13, 2025, Maryland State Police from the Centreville Barrack executed the arrest warrant and took Wolfe into custody.
Charges Filed Against Zachary Wolfe:
- First-Degree Assault
- Second-Degree Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer
- Second-Degree Assault
- Attempt by Driver to Elude Uniformed Police
- Reckless Driving
- Negligent Driving
- Driving Without a License
- Driving on a Suspended License
On July 13, 2025, Wolfe was held without bond due to the seriousness of the allegations. However, on the following day, July 14, 2025, Wolfe had a bond review and was released on his own recognizance.
