Queen Anne's County, MD - On June 30, 2025, at approximately 2:16 PM, Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Deputy First Class (DFC) Trader conducted a traffic stop near Route 301 and Hope Road.

DFC Trader observed a vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit, which was measured using a handheld laser.

DFC Trader initiated the traffic stop and approached the driver, later identified as Amafika Cosby. As the driver rolled down the window, DFC Trader noticed a visible cloud of smoke emanating from the vehicle.

During their interaction, DFC Trader observed multiple signs of impairment and detected the odor of freshly burnt marijuana.

When questioned, Cosby admitted to having smoked marijuana earlier at the Route 301 rest stop. He agreed to perform field sobriety tests but was unable to complete them satisfactorily, prompting DFC Trader to place him under arrest.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a marijuana joint in plain view within the ashtray, and Cosby again acknowledged his consumption of marijuana.

After his arrest, Cosby provided a breath sample test that showed a blood alcohol content of 0.000, which ruled out alcohol-related impairment.

However, Cosby declined to undergo further testing by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) to assess impairment from other substances.

  • Negligent Driving
