Cambridge, MD - In the early morning hours of March 23, 2024, the Cambridge Police Department (CPD) was called to the 400 block of Camper St following a reported stabbing.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a 39-year-old male resident of Cambridge, Maryland, suffering from multiple stab wounds and lacerations.

The victim, who was in a dire state, informed the officers that Charles Brandon McCourt had attacked him. The victim's assertion was repeated before he lost consciousness.

Cambridge Police Department officers administered first aid until Dorchester County Emergency Medical Services arrived to continue medical care. Due to unfavorable weather conditions preventing a medivac helicopter deployment, the victim was transported to Tidal Health Peninsula Regional Hospital, Salisbury, via ambulance. The victim is currently undergoing surgery and is reported to be in stable condition.

Witness reports from the scene allowed officers to establish a suspect description quickly. The assailant, who had also assaulted a witness while attempting to flee, was soon tracked down by an officer in a nearby wooded area between Camper St and the Board of Education.

The suspect, identified as Charles Brandon McCourt, a 31-year-old resident of Cambridge, Maryland, was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the CPD for further investigation.

Following an investigation by Cambridge Patrol Officers and Detectives from the Criminal Investigative Division, McCourt was officially charged and had his initial court appearance before a Court Commissioner.

He has been remanded into custody at the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

McCourt is charged with the following:

  • 1st Degree Attempted Murder

  • 2nd Degree Attempted Murder

  • Assault 1st Degree

  • Assault 2nd Degree
