Early Morning House Fire Destroys Dewey Beach Residence

Dewey Beach, DE - A house fire in the early morning hours of October 13, 2025, completely destroyed one residence and damaged several neighboring homes on Carolina Street. The incident began at approximately 3:01 a.m. when a Dewey Beach Police officer was on patrol and detected smoke in the area of Carolina Street. The officer began searching the immediate area to locate the source of the odor. The Dewey Beach Communications Center also received a report of a possible fire in the first block of Carolina Street at the same time. Officers responded immediately to that location, where officers discovered heavy fire showing from the second floor of a residence. The structure quickly became fully engulfed in flames within moments. Strong northeast winds from an active coastal storm contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. The weather conditions also complicated suppression efforts for responding crews. The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched and arrived promptly on scene. Multiple surrounding fire companies and Sussex County EMS provided assistance. Fire crews brought the blaze under control in about 1-hour, at approximately 4:00 a.m. One residence was completely destroyed in the incident. Several neighboring homes sustained damage due to intense heat and wind conditions. Several firefighters sustained minor injuries during suppression efforts. Two firefighters were transported to Beebe Medical Center for treatment. The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
