Eastern Shore Running Club Announces Second Annual Pirate's Wharf 5K
WICOMICO COUNTY, MD - The Eastern Shore Running Club will host its second annual Pirate's Wharf 5K on Saturday, October 11, at Pirate's Wharf Park in Quantico, Maryland. The event will feature a new addition this year with the introduction of a noncompetitive one-mile walk alongside the traditional 5K race.
Both the 5K race and one-mile walk will commence at 9 a.m. The course will utilize the crushed stone paths throughout Pirate's Wharf Park. Participants will have access to post-race entertainment including music provided by a DJ and complimentary açaí bowls from Playa Bowls.
The event will recognize participants through overall and age group awards. Door prizes will also be distributed during the festivities. Race proceeds will support the Eastern Shore Running Club's general fund and scholarship fund. The organization has awarded scholarships to two local high school graduating seniors annually since 2019.
Registration for the event is priced at $30 with an additional processing fee of $2.80. Online registration remains available through the club's website until Wednesday, October 8, at 11:59 p.m. Race-day registration will be available for $35 between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m., with packet pickup available during the same timeframe for pre-registered participants.
Participants who wish to guarantee receipt of a race shirt must register by September 18. The club president, Vanessa Junkin, expressed enthusiasm for the event's return.
"Our first Pirate's Wharf 5K was a lot of fun, and we're excited to bring the race back for its second year," said Junkin. "This park is beautiful, and the trails offer a flat and fast course."

Event organizers have established specific guidelines for race participation. Dogs and strollers are not permitted on the race course. Pirate's Wharf Park is located at 4701 Whitehaven Road in Quantico, Maryland.
The Eastern Shore Running Club operates as a Salisbury, Maryland-based nonprofit organization through the Road Runners Club of America group exemption. The organization was founded to promote and advocate for the running community on Maryland's Eastern Shore.
