Easton Man Charged Following Child Abuse and Assault Investigation

Talbot County, MD - Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported domestic assault in the 8600-block of Swann Haven Road on December 21, 2025.

An investigation was conducted at the scene, which determined that 43-year-old Irenus Jonathan Bernard, of Easton, MD, had assaulted his juvenile daughter.

Injuries consistent with assault were observed on the victim by the responding deputies. Bernard was subsequently placed under arrest.

The juvenile was transported to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton for medical attention.

Bernard has been charged with first- and second-degree child abuse, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and intoxicated endangerment.

He was transported to the Talbot County Central Booking facility for processing and an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner. Bernard is currently being held pending further action by the courts.
