Easton Man Charged with Theft and Drug Possession Following Shoplifting Investigation

EASTON, MD - Officers with the Easton Police Department arrested a local man on theft and drug possession charges following a shoplifting incident at a sporting goods store earlier this month.
The incident occurred on September 11, 2025, at approximately 10:35 am when officers were dispatched to Dick's Sporting Goods in response to a shoplifting report. Store employees informed responding officers that a suspect had stolen merchandise and fled the scene on a bicycle.
Police located the suspect in the area of South Street and S. Thorogood Lane. The individual was later identified as James J. Mast, 58, of Easton, Maryland.
During the encounter with Easton Police Officers, Mast dropped a baggie that contained suspected crack cocaine.
Following the investigation, Mast was charged with Theft under $100 and CDS Possession-Not Cannabis. The case demonstrates the department's continued efforts to address both property crimes and drug-related offenses in the community.
