Easton Police Arrest Suspect Following Clay Street Apartment Burglary

Easton, MD - On March 21, 2026, officers from the Easton Police Department were dispatched to the 30th block of Clay Street. The call was initially reported as a burglary in progress. However, dispatch later advised officers that the incident had already occurred.

At the location, the front door of the apartment was found forced open. A doorbell camera was broken off the exterior of the residence. It was subsequently discovered inside the apartment's living room.

An investigation was initiated by the responding officers. A suspect, identified as 52-year-old Herbert Wilkins Jr., was located in the surrounding area. During an interview with law enforcement, the break-in was admitted to by Wilkins.

Wilkins was arrested and charged with multiple offenses. These charges include first-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, and fourth-degree burglary.

He was also charged with possession of fourth-degree burglary tools and malicious destruction of property. Wilkins was later released to the custody of the Talbot County Detention Center.
