Easton Police Investigate a Home Invasion at Days Inn Hotel

Easton, MD - Easton Police Department officers responded to an incident involving a firearm at the Days Inn Hotel, located at 7018 Ocean Gateway, on August 12, 2025, at approximately 1:39 p.m.
The report described a man with a gun on the premises. With assistance from the Talbot County Sheriff's Office, officers quickly apprehended the suspect at the scene. He was identified as 40-year-old Mr. Earnest Young Jr. of Federalsburg, MD.
Investigators determined that Young had entered a hotel room, where he confronted a male and female. During the altercation, it was alleged that Young displayed a handgun and pointed it at the male victim. Both victims were able to escape the room without injury and contacted law enforcement. Officers later located a loaded 9mm handgun near the scene of the incident.
Following the investigation, Young was arrested and charged with the following offenses:
- Home Invasion
- First Degree Assault
- Reckless Endangerment
- Firearm Use During the Commission of a Felony/Violent Crime
- Firearm Possession with a Felony Conviction
- Illegal Possession of a Regulated Firearm
- Illegal Possession of Ammunition
Young was subsequently transferred to the custody of the Talbot County Detention Center.
Further inquiries revealed additional involvement in the case. A female connected to the incident, identified as 29-year-old Ms. Katherine Adkins of Easton, MD, was found to have assisted Young after the fact.
During the initial investigation, Adkins claimed there was no weapon involved and denied that Young had entered the room. However, a witness stated that Adkins hid the handgun in another room as officers arrived.
On August 13, 2025, Adkins was charged with the following offenses:
- Accessory After the Fact
- Handgun on Person
- Loaded Handgun on Person
- Alter Physical Evidence
- False Statement to Officer
Adkins was also transferred to the custody of the Talbot County Detention Center.
Authorities continue to handle the case and process any additional evidence.
