ELLENDALE MAN ARRESTED FOR DUI AND WEAPONS OFFENSES FOLLOWING HARBESON CRASH

Harbeson, Delaware - Delaware State Police have arrested 33-year-old James Fisher of Ellendale, Delaware, on charges of driving under the influence (DUI), firearms offenses, and crash-related charges after a motor vehicle accident on Harbeson Road.


The incident occurred on July 1, 2025, at approximately 8:35 a.m. Fisher was driving a Ford F-750 southbound on Harbeson Road, north of the Lewes-Georgetown Highway. For reasons that are still under investigation, the vehicle left its lane and struck multiple parked cars on the 18000 block of Harbeson Road.


Witnesses at the scene reported seeing Fisher exit the vehicle after the crash. He was observed removing a bag from the Ford and concealing it behind a nearby tree.


When troopers arrived, they noted that Fisher exhibited multiple signs of impairment. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were conducted at the scene. Troopers also located the bag that Fisher had hidden, which contained several firearms, ammunition, and ballistic vests.


It was determined that the firearms in Fisher's possession had been stolen. Despite sustaining minor injuries in the crash, Fisher declined transport to the hospital.


Further investigation revealed that Fisher was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. He was taken into custody and transported to Troop 7 for processing.


James Fisher was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and subsequently committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $25,530 secured bond.


James Fisher was charged with the following:


  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony) - 4 counts
  • Possession of a Firearm/Destructive Weapon if Previously Convicted of a Violent Felony (Felony) - 4 counts
  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited Prior Violent Crime or Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of a Weapon with a Removed, Obliterated, or Altered Serial Number (Felony)
  • Theft of a Firearm (Felony) - 4 counts
  • Driving Under the Influence of Drugs
  • Other Traffic Violations
