FAILURE TO LEAVE HOTEL RESULTS IN MILFORD MAN ARRESTED FOR MULTIPLE OFFENSES

Milford, DE - On June 7, 2025, at approximately 12:53 p.m., the Milford Police Department responded to a trespassing complaint at the Rodeway Inn on N. Walnut St., Milford. The suspect, Dieter Smith, 35, of Milford, DE, was expected to vacate his motel room but refused to do so.


Upon their arrival, officers found Smith to be uncooperative, and he began damaging the room. He was subsequently arrested and charged with a variety of offenses (listed below).


During the search, police discovered drug paraphernalia and crack cocaine in Smith's possession. Additionally, materials used for methamphetamine production were found in the room.


The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) was called to assess and dispose of these materials. The investigation indicated that methamphetamine had not yet been manufactured.


Smith was charged with the following:

  • Unlawful to Knowingly Operate or Attempt to Operate a Clandestine Laboratory (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Possession and Use of a Controlled or Counterfeit Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Criminal Mischief under $1,000
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree


After a hearing in Justice of the Peace Court 7, Smith was held on $11,500 secured bail pending a preliminary hearing in the Kent County Court of Common Pleas.
