Federal Partnership Brings Infrastructure Investment to Wicomico County
Wicomico County, MD - Wicomico County officials recently highlighted their ongoing cooperation with the federal government. This partnership has resulted in investments regarding local waterways, infrastructure, and economic stability. The county worked with Maryland's federal delegation, including U.S. Representative Andy Harris (MD-01), to secure these resources.
The funding was established through the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies appropriations process. It supports waterway navigation, dredging operations, and environmental stewardship across the Eastern Shore region.
County Executive Julie Giordano commented on the impact of the collaboration.
"Wicomico County greatly values our partnership with our federal representatives," said County Executive Julie Giordano. "Congressman Harris has been instrumental in advocating for water infrastructure funding that benefits not just his district, but all of Maryland's coastal and river communities. His leadership in securing funding for dredging and other critical projects demonstrates what can be accomplished when federal and local leaders work together."
Representative Harris noted that the legislation includes funding for the Wicomico River Dredging Project.
"I'm proud to have supported this legislation, which included funding for the Wicomico River Dredging Project. These projects improve navigation, protect local waterways, and support the commercial fishing, maritime, and small businesses that are central to Maryland's working waterfront communities", said Congressman Harris.
Representative Harris has delivered federal resources for other local infrastructure priorities. This includes more than $4.7 million for dredging projects, such as Slaughter Creek. Millions more were allocated for water and dredging improvements across the Eastern Shore under the Energy & Water appropriations process.
This federal collaboration allows Wicomico County to advance priorities regarding navigation safety, environmental conservation, and economic opportunity. These efforts serve residents, businesses, and visitors in the area. Wicomico County intends to continue this partnership with Congressman Harris to deliver results for the region.
