Federalsburg Man Arrested Following Traffic Stop in Dorchester County

HURLOCK, MD - An 18-year-old was arrested on multiple firearm and drug charges following a traffic stop in Hurlock, Maryland.

On October 16, 2025, at approximately 9:37 p.m., a Dorchester County Sheriff's Office Deputy stopped a silver Acura for a traffic violation near the intersection of East New Market Hurlock Road and Poplar Street. During the stop, the deputy detected the odor of cannabis.

The investigation revealed that both the driver and the passenger were under 21 years old. The passenger, identified as Cavin J. Wilcox, 18, of Federalsburg, was found to be in possession of a loaded semi-automatic handgun.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered approximately five ounces of cannabis packaged in multiple bags.

Wilcox was arrested and charged with possession of a regulated firearm while under 21, possession of cannabis with intent to distribute, and several offenses related to transporting a loaded handgun. He was held without bond following his arrest.
