Caroline County, MD - A jury has found a Federalsburg man guilty of multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of a minor.

State's Attorney Sloane R. Franklin announced the verdict on January 8, 2026, following a four-day trial. Christopher James Thomas was convicted of Sex Abuse of a Minor - Continuing Course of Conduct, Sex Abuse of a Minor by a Family and Household Member, and Child Abuse Second Degree by a Family and Household Member. He was also found guilty of Second Degree Assault, Sex Offense Third Degree, and Sex Offense Fourth Degree.

Evidence presented during the trial indicated that the abuse occurred over a five-year period. The investigation was conducted by the former Federalsburg Police Department after the victim disclosed the abuse.

"Thomas broke the trust and traumatized the victim," Franklin said. "It took a lot of courage for the victim to come forward and report this heinous crime."

Franklin credited the investigative team for their work on the case.

"I want to personally thank Detective Michelle Schuerholz and Sgt. Jeffrey Adams (currently with Greensboro Police Department) for their efforts in bringing this monster to justice," Franklin stated. "Child sex cases are very difficult, especially late disclosures. Hopefully, the victim can now start the healing process knowing Thomas will be behind bars for a very long time. This office takes such cases very seriously and will fight for justice for the victim. In this case, justice was served."

Sentencing will be scheduled following the conclusion of a Presentencing Investigation. The case was prosecuted by State's Attorney Sloane R. Franklin.
