PARSONSBURG, MD - A structure fire caused significant damage to a home in Parsonsburg, Wicomico County, Maryland on the morning of December 8, 2025. The incident occurred at approximately 6:34 AM in the 34000 block of Wango Road.

The Powellville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the single-alarm fire, along with several other fire departments from Wicomico County (MD), Worcester County (MD), and Sussex County (DE). Forty-five firefighters arrived at the scene and worked for one and a half hours to bring the situation under control.

The property is a two-story, wood-frame, single-family dwelling.

The homeowner was inside the residence with his dog when the fire began. They were able to escape safely after hearing a "pop" and a passing motorist alerted him to the flames on the exterior of the house. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

State Fire Marshals investigated the scene and determined the fire started on the exterior front porch. The preliminary cause was ruled accidental due to an electrical failure at an outlet. Smoke alarms were present in the home and activated successfully.

The occupant has been displaced as a result of the incident.
