Fire Damages Single-Story Home in Dorchester County, Maryland

Toddville, MD - A fire broke out at a single-story, wood-framed family home located on the 2500 block of Toddville Road on the evening of Saturday, July 19, 2025 at approximately 9:38 P.M.
The fire caused an estimated $25,000 in structural damage and $10,000 in content loss. The home was equipped with a functional smoke alarm, which activated during the event.
The Lakes & Straits Volunteer Fire Company was the primary responding fire department. A total of 15 firefighters were present, and the blaze was brought under control within 20 minutes.
The fire was discovered by an occupant of the home, and investigations have determined that the living room was the fire's point of origin.
A preliminary report indicates that the cause of the fire was accidental, resulting from a lightning strike.
