FIREFIGHTER TREATED FOR HEAT EXHAUSTION IN DENTON FIRE

Caroline County, MD - A fire broke out early Tuesday morning in a large chicken house located in the 8600 block of Tuckahoe Road in Denton, Caroline County, Maryland. The structure, measuring 67 feet by 600 feet and owned by Tuckahoe River Farms Poultry LLC, suffered significant damage.   


One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion at the scene and subsequently transported to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center for further care.


The estimated loss includes $500,000 for the structure and $25,000 for its contents. The fire originated at the rear of the chicken house, and the cause is currently under investigation.  


The primary responding fire department, the Denton Volunteer Fire Company, arrived on the scene with 43 firefighters from assisting fire departments. They brought the blaze under control after approximately three hours of firefighting efforts.
