Five Teenagers Arrested on Firearm Charges Following Traffic Stop

Queen Anne's County, MD - Five teenagers from Delaware were arrested on multiple firearm charges following a traffic stop.


The arrested individuals have been identified as Bryant Hartwell, 19, of Dover; Jonathan Payne, 19, of Dover; Jaeyon Wright-May, 19, of Smyrna; Jaevyon Wright-May, 18, of Smyrna; and Jamil Williams, 18, of Millville.


On August 22, 2025, at approximately 11:49 p.m., Deputy First Class Frazier and Deputy First Class Doyle were conducting traffic enforcement on southbound Route 301 near Route 305. Officers observed a vehicle traveling at high speed and recorded a radar reading of 82 mph in a posted 55 mph zone.


Deputy First Class Frazier initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Jaeyon Wright-May, and four passengers. During a routine license check, deputies discovered the driver's license was suspended.


Due to suspicious behaviors observed by the occupants, deputies requested a K9 team to respond to the scene. The K9 unit conducted a search and alerted positively on the vehicle.


A probable cause search revealed weapons and ammunition in the vehicle. Officers located a loaded Glock 23 .40 caliber handgun under the front passenger seat and an extended magazine in the glove box.


An unloaded 12-gauge shotgun was found in the trunk, along with shotgun ammunition in the center console and trunk area.


All occupants denied ownership of the handgun. Each of the five individuals was arrested and charged with handgun in vehicle, loaded handgun in vehicle, handgun on person, loaded handgun on person, and possession of a firearm by a minor.


The driver received additional citations for exceeding the maximum speed limit, driving on a suspended out-of-state license, and driving without required license and authorization.
