Georgetown Man Arrested After Police Find Explosives and Weapons
Georgetown, DE - Delaware State Police arrested a 61-year-old man in Georgetown following a domestic dispute investigation. Officers discovered pipe bombs, firearms, and narcotics at the residence. The suspect, David Godwin, currently faces multiple felony charges.
The incident began on November 10, 2025. At approximately 1:00 p.m., troopers responded to a home on the 17000 block of McColley's Chapel Road. They investigated a report of a domestic-related assault.
Authorities learned that Godwin allegedly possessed a handgun during an altercation with a family member. He also reportedly attempted to assault the victim with a club. Godwin fled the residence before police arrived. EMS personnel treated the victim at the scene.
Troopers returned to the residence on November 11 and arrested Godwin without incident. During a subsequent check of the property, officers observed drugs, guns, and items resembling homemade pipe bombs.
The Delaware State Police Explosives Ordnance Disposal Unit responded to the scene. They removed the devices to ensure the area was safe. Detectives then secured the scene to obtain a search warrant.
On November 12, investigators executed a search warrant at the property. The State Police were assisted by the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office, the FBI, and the ATF.
The search uncovered four functional pipe bombs and several hoax devices, including an altered claymore mine and a novelty grenade. Police also seized multiple firearms, including rifles and handguns.
Additionally, officers found approximately 9.1 grams of methamphetamines and 27 marijuana plants.
Godwin was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution. He remains held on a $280,000 secured bond. His charges include four counts of Possession of a Destructive Weapon, multiple counts regarding hoax devices and deadly weapons, and charges related to the initial assault.
