Georgetown Man Arrested for DUI After Single-Vehicle Crash

Georgetown, DE - A Georgetown man faces multiple charges following a single-vehicle crash that occurred early Sunday morning near The Circle in Georgetown, Delaware.

Santos Niz-Chilel, 35, was arrested after crashing his vehicle and attempting to flee the scene on foot. Georgetown Police responded to the incident at approximately 1:03 a.m. on October 19, 2025, in the area of North Bedford Street and The Circle.

Officers arrived to find Niz-Chilel running from his vehicle. Police pursued the suspect on foot and successfully apprehended him. He was taken into custody without further incident.

The preliminary investigation shows that Niz-Chilel was traveling south on North Bedford Street when his vehicle continued straight into The Circle. The vehicle struck a street sign and caused damage to nearby flower beds. Officials are still assessing the total cost of repairs to city property.

Police charged Niz-Chilel with driving under the influence, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, failure to provide information, and leaving the scene of a crash. He was transported to Sussex Correctional Institution, where he remains in custody.
