Georgetown Woman Arrested for Weapon Offenses Following Road Rage Incident

Georgetown, DE - Delaware State Police have arrested a 20-year-old Georgetown woman on multiple weapon-related felony charges following a road rage incident that occurred yesterday morning.


Melleca Butler was taken into custody after an incident on October 10, 2025, at approximately 11:30 a.m. Troopers responded to the area of Dupont Boulevard and Shortly Road after receiving reports of a road rage incident involving a firearm.


The investigation determined that Butler was driving a GMC Yukon with Delaware registration when she pulled alongside the victim's vehicle. The victim, a 49-year-old man from Houston, Delaware, was traveling southbound on Dupont Boulevard at the time.


During the road rage incident, Butler displayed a handgun before continuing southbound on the roadway.


Law enforcement officers from Delaware State Police and the Millsboro Police Department conducted patrols in the area. They located the suspect vehicle near the intersection of Laurel Road and Dupont Boulevard in Millsboro. Officers conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Butler, who matched the description provided by witnesses.


Butler was taken into custody without incident. A consent search of the vehicle revealed an unloaded handgun concealed between the driver's seat and center console. A computer inquiry showed that Butler does not possess a permit to carry a concealed deadly weapon.


Butler was transported to Troop 4 and charged with Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, and Aggravated Menacing. All three charges are felonies.


She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Baylor Women's Correctional Institution on a $23,500 cash bond.
