Ellendale, DE - On May 2, 2025, troopers from the Delaware State Police were dispatched to Reynolds Pond Road in Ellendale, Delaware, following reports of reckless endangerment involving a motorist.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a black Pontiac G6 being driven towards a Correctional Officer who was supervising a work crew from the Sussex Community Corrections Center.

The driver, identified as 26-year-old Inessa Bagwell from Georgetown, Delaware, initially interacted with the Correctional Officer and was instructed to leave the area. Although she complied at first, Bagwell returned shortly afterward and confronted the officer, ultimately driving her vehicle directly toward him in a reckless act that nearly struck him.

Following the investigation, troopers identified Bagwell and secured a warrant for her arrest. She was apprehended on May 5, 2025, and subsequently arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3, where she was later released on her own recognizance.

Bagwell faced the following charges:

  • Reckless Endangering 1st Degree (Felony)
  • Disorderly Conduct for Refusing to Disperse

This incident underscores the dangers faced by Correctional Officers and emphasizes the importance of maintaining a safe environment for those responsible for community safety and supervision.

This week, from May 4th through the 10th, is National Correctional Officers Week, a time to honor those who serve in jails, prisons, and correctional facilities.
