Salisbury, MD - On October 10, 2023, at approximately 7:23 PM, officers of the Salisbury Police Department responded to the area of E. Salisbury Parkway (Rt 50) and Hobbs Road in Salisbury, Maryland, to investigate several reports of a vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes.

A short time later and while traveling to the scene, Salisbury Police Officers were notified that a head-on collision had occurred in the same area of the original call for service, between two vehicles.

Officers arrived on the scene and observed two vehicles that had been involved in a collision, each with damage consistent with having been struck head-on.

The investigation conducted by members of the Salisbury Police Department revealed that a vehicle being operated by 30-year-old Gelmer Navaro-Chavez was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes when it collided head-on with another vehicle being operated by a 38-year-old male driver.

Mr. Chavez was transported to Tidal Health Peninsula Regional, released, and shortly thereafter placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The other driver remains under medical care and his condition is considered critical but stable.
