State of Delaware - The recent heat wave has resulted in multiple instances of road buckling across Delaware, prompting immediate action from the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT). Officials report that intense heat causes pavement materials to expand, leading to uneven surfaces on several roads.

On Tuesday, Route 113 in Sussex County experienced five cases of road buckling. Additionally, one incident was noted on Route 1 near Milford, and a separate occurrence was reported Wednesday morning near Five Points in Lewes.

To address these hazards, DelDOT crews have been using grinding equipment to temporarily level the affected areas. These repairs aim to eliminate immediate risks to drivers, with more permanent solutions planned for the future.

With temperatures forecasted to remain in the upper 90s, further road buckling may occur over the coming days. DelDOT advises drivers to stay alert and slow down in areas where crews are working to address the problem.

For anyone encountering road buckling, DelDOT recommends contacting its Transportation Management Center by dialing #77 when it is safe to do so.
